Mohamad, 32 years old, from Syria living in Lebanon since 2009. Master’s in Archeology with the support of a HOPES scholarship funded by the EU through the ‘EU Madad Fund’ at the Lebanese University

“I am married, head of a household. Since childhood, I am passionate about archeology. Past and history are essential to form a civilization. No words are enough to describe how good it feels to discover the archeological treasures of one’s country. I have obtained my Bachelor’s Degree from the Lebanese University in Arts and Archeology. I am currently finishing my Master’s studies; I have completed the first year and the courses of the second year, and submitted my thesis project entitled “Neolithic Pottery in Tabarja Site”. The importance of such a subject lies in proving that Tabarja site is the oldest Neolithic site in Lebanon, even older than Byblos. I aim to complete my degree with excellent grades, and pursue my Doctoral studies. I have faced numerous difficulties because of the current situation of the country, in addition to the lack of financial resources and the difficulty to obtain the residency in Lebanon. The HOPES program has helped me alleviate the pressure and tension that I lived to ensure my academic requirements. I would like to thank them for the efforts they made. Being able to pursue my studies despite all family, material and social circumstances was a success. My message to other students facing the same difficulties is not to give up and to persevere and fight against the circumstances and obstacles that stand in the way of every emigrant student who dreams of completing his studies.”
