Aya, 30 years old, from Syria living in Jordan since 2014. Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with the support of a HOPES scholarship funded by the EU ‘Madad Fund’ at Al-Ahlyyia Amman University

“Five years ago, I left my country Syria and came to Jordan with my family. During this period, I tried to build my capacity and I have developed some experiences in psychological fields but I was always looking forward to achieve higher postgraduate degree. The challenge that I faced was the lack of job opportunities in Jordan. Despite my difficulties, I was able to complete my studies and to pursue my dream and now I am getting closer to obtaining a master’s degree in clinical psychology. In addition, I have a diploma in human resources management and worked as a volunteer with children who have learning difficulties and suffering from autism. I volunteered with many organizations and volunteer groups in the field of psychological support for refugees. I chose this field to support people who need help in solving their problems. My ambition is to complete my studies abroad or in Jordan and get my PhD and help others so that I can leave a good mark in life and come back and help in rebuilding my country one day at the end of the crisis. HOPES scholarship gave me a great opportunity to continue my studies and achieve my goal. I wish that this type of HOPES support would be maintained until I achieve the highest postgraduate degree and reach the labour market. My message to the other students is to have hope that they will achieve their hopes, and to always try to find opportunities that will help them realize their dream, and to challenge the difficult circumstances facing them.”
